Analysts, on average, forecast earnings of $1.26 per share, down 10% on a year-over-year (YoY) basis. Revenue is forecast to arrive at $70.7 billion (+8.5% YoY).

“Although Search remains better positioned than other areas of advertising spend, macro issues (especially outside the U.S.) are likely to lead to growth rates coming to a halt for GOOGL and the broader ad space (bottoming in the first half of 2023),” says CFRA Research analyst Angelo Zino. “Negative currency headwinds will impact GOOGL, along with other mega-cap tech companies,” the analyst adds.
Still, Zino has a Buy rating on Alphabet stock, citing his “view of valuation versus large-cap tech peers, free cash flow potential, and the belief that GOOGL can sustain a 10%-plus long-term earnings per share growth pace.”

The three-month period will include sales from the company’s July Prime Day, which “proved to be a strong driver of demand, says Truist Securities analyst Youssef Squali (Buy).
At CFRA Research, analyst Arun Sundaram (Strong Buy) figures that the Prime Day shift to Q3 from Q2 likely added 400 basis points of revenue growth this quarter. (A basis point = 0.01%.) “Additionally, online sales may have received a lift from more people choosing to shop online due to record high gas prices this summer,” Sundaram says.
Overall, consensus estimates are for AMZN to report third-quarter revenue of $127.6 billion (+15.1% YoY) and earnings of 22 cents per share (-29% YoY).
Earnings Spotlight: AppleApple (AAPL (opens in new tab), $144.01) will also report earnings after Thursday’s close, with the iPhone maker set to release its fiscal fourth-quarter results. Morgan Stanley analyst Erik Woodring (Overweight, the equivalent of Buy) says the setup for AAPL’s September quarter report is constructive due to several factors. These include “remarkably stable” iPhone, iPad and Mac production, as well as higher average selling prices (ASPs) for iPhones, which should offset headwinds from unfavorable foreign exchange.
CFRA Research analyst Angelo Zino (Buy) echoes that view, telling clients that Apple will benefit from “a strong start to the iPhone 14 cycle.” Although the analyst concedes that iPhone 14 momentum will likely ease over the next few quarters as the cycle runs its course, “we think the combination of greater Services revenue and an attractive hardware pipeline will continue to drive higher free cash flow and share price appreciation in the coming years.”
For AAPL’s fiscal Q4, analysts, on average, expect earnings of $1.27 per share (+2.4% YoY) and revenue of $88.9 billion (+6.6% YoY).
